I've been teaching creative coding at Multidisciplinary New Media department at Paris College of Art for the past five years. The course is aimed at artists and designers. Similar to Marshall McLuhan describes, "extensions of our senses alter the way we think," course's objective is to provide an extension to student's creative toolset.
All media are extensions of some human faculty–psychic or physical. The wheel is an extension of the food, the book is an extension of the eye... clothing, an extension of the skin... electric circuitry, an extension of the central nervous system. Media, by altering environment, evoke in us unique ratios of sense perceptions. The extension of any one sense alters the way we think and act–the way we perceive the world. When these ratios change, men change.Marshall McLuhan, The Medium is the Massage
Over the years, I've tested many platforms to use in the class, to share code, to collaborate, and to display outcomes. In the end, I've decided to gather all the materials into this website.
Of course, a lot of the content presented on this website wouldn't be possible without Daniel Shiffman's highly informative and entertaining videos. Many students in the class watch them and continue learning at their own pace throughout the course.
This website is a work in progress. Feel free to contact me on Twitter if you have any suggestions or questions.
